Clothed in Humility

Updated: Jun 18, 2021

In these times it is important that we encourage one another. Lifting each other up, and praying for our brothers and sisters in Christ, it is what God has called us to do.

The enemy wants to divide the children of God and he will use any, and all opportunities to try and create a wedge of division. He wants us to focus on the differences of each other not to embrace them but rather to create a spirit of pride and judgement.

Romans 14:1-4 (ESV) As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. 2 One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. 3 Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. 4 Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

Paul is speaking here to those who eat differently than some, but this applies in other ways to God’s children too. We shouldn’t think that because we clean the church and others don’t, that we are more faithful or that because we dress differently than others that we are closer to God.

We should not allow pride to slip in and make us feel we have arrived and are the better servant.

Galatians 6:4 (MSG) Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don't be impressed with yourself. Don't compare yourself with others.

Philippians 2:3 (ESV) "Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

As the apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

So be encouraged in God’s love for us all and may we clothe ourselves in humility as we serve each other in love.
