Rest

Days like these it seems difficult to move. We feel paralyzed with so many uncertainties. We question what to do as we try to wrap our heads around this unsettling time.
Fear creeps in and we begin to have thoughts of how are we going to make it? The what if’s continually swirl through our minds.
We know the scriptures that tell us to “Be still and know that I am God” and “Those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength” yet we struggle to hold on and be still.
We question our own faith and if we are believers then why are we anxious and worried?
The truth is we can be believers in God and still have human thoughts and concerns but when we spend more time in those worries than we do in God’s word we become unbalanced and the scales shift from hope to hopeless. At that moment we forfeit our peace.
Corrie Ten Boom said it perfectly. “If you look at the world you’ll be distressed, if you look within, you’ll be depressed but if you look at God you’ll be at rest.”
Hebrews 4:9 lets us know there is a rest to those who place their trust in God. Today may we turn off the news and pick up our bibles and rest in his word.
His mercies are new every morning. His promises are true. He promised to supply all our needs (Phil. 4:19) and to never leave or forsake us. (Deut.31:6, Deut. 31:8, Heb. 13:5)
We may not be able to trust the media, the government or the people around us, but we can trust in the only one that has proven himself.
Then we will have the peace that passes all understanding and we can enter into that rest.
Phil. 4:7
